Job summary/Role description

The Project relates to the implementation of a Polypropylene Unit and a linear Polyethylene Unit, as part of Repsol’s expansion of Sines Industrial Complex in Portugal.

The project scope of work entails complete engineering services, equipment and material supply, installation and construction activities and, as an optional part of the scope, commissioning and start up. The new Polypropylene and linear Polyethylene Units, which represent the largest industrial investment in Portugal in the last ten years, will have a capacity of 300,000 tons per year each and will be located inside Repsol’s industrial complex in Sines, Portugal. The technologies applied in both units will guarantee maximum energy efficiency and will be the first of their kind to be implemented in the Iberian Peninsula, making the Sines Industrial Complex one of the most advanced in Europe due to its flexibility and high degree of integration.


Mechanical Static Equipment Engineer supervises the engineering activities of the Vendor (KMHI), selected for the Project, ensuring successful results in terms of quality, compliance and time

Duties and responsibilities

  • Check the engineering drawings and the relevant mechanical calculations of pressure static equipment supplied by the Vendors;

  • Coordinate the activities of the draftsmen charged to prepare the engineering drawings of each static equipment;

  • Secure the issue of design calculations, check of drawings relevant to Mechanical disciplines (pressure vessel and heat exchanger) plants, on the basis given by the Project Engineering team;

  • Ensure the project documents quality, in accordance with the contract requirements and respecting the assigned budget and executing project deadlines;

  • Coordinate between all parties the definition of the project basic technical choices, identifying the best solutions, from a technical, economical and temporal point of view, guaranteeing their completeness and accuracy, on the basis of the technical specifications and guidelines of the assigned project;

  • Perform internal calculation standards in accordance with economic optimization criteria;

  • Participation in the development of design and technical documentation;

  • Participation in the inspection of Mechanical works;

  • Random checks of conformity of the construction and installation work documentation and the requirements of construction norms and regulations;

  • Contractors support in terms of work preparation, performance monitoring, reporting of progress.

Person Specification

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • University Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Knowledge of the mechanical design of pressure vessels in accordance with ASME Code;
  • Knowledge of software of the design of pressure equipment


  • Relevant experience in construction/modernisation of petrochemical /industrial sector/ EPC projects large petrochemical plants;
  • Experience in Design Static Equipment (pressure vessel and heat exchanger);
  • At least 10 years of experience in the specific discipline;
  • Experience working on Contractor side;
  • Similar role covered in last three projects of comparable size.

  • Excellent communications, team-oriented and interpersonal skills;
  • Attention to details;
  • Self-motivation and direction, with a strong bias toward timely performance and problem resolution.
